Company

by r.a. kukkee

*Conefower (Echinecea

Her knees creaked almost as loudly as the rocker when she got up to answer the door. She shuffled across the waxed hardwood, pausing to peek through the Irish lace at the side window.

"I hate company" she whispered to herself.
She could not see his face.  The visitor studied the pink Coneflowers  by the step.  She hesitated, then opened the door cautiously.

"Why hello there, Sarah, ", the old man said, "the butterflies love your Coneflowers"
She gasped and clasped his hand to her breast.  Her hands trembled as she smiled.
"Robert, oh, Robert...I thought you would never come!"
" I got your letter a few weeks ago, I was in England,  I knew you would change your mind and marry me."   He put his arms around her.
"No, Robert....it's the cancer, my time has run out. I...need you to help me die."
He cried.

  2. Love it RK!!! It grabs the reader and sends them on a journey of thought provoking images about the words you just left them with, the image you brought forth for them to explore. Excellent! But sad as well...I imagine he stays and sees her through to the end with great compassion. Thanks for your words. Blessings...VK

    1. Hi Vk, thank you, it is sad, but in some ways it reflects life entirely--the dreams, the hope, the destruction by reality, and the potential for a compassionate vision of the future. By the way, thank you for YOUR words too-your insight is amazing. Have a wonderful day and enjoy our blessings too! ":) ~R

Excellent Raymond, and like VK said those few words sends the reader into their own journey as they ask questions of that love that brought Robert across an ocean..
I hope it continues to fill many more words as I see a story unfolding when time allows..
Wishing you a Great Week my friend..
